Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant BOO — JTTF

A build-own-operate industrial plant treating Juaymah Terminal evaporation-pond wastewater to marine-discharge standard — expanded with a second line in one month without interrupting operations.

Project type
Build-Own-Operate (BOO) + expansion
Executive summary

A build-own-operate plant treating evaporation-pond wastewater to marine-discharge standard. After a successful first 250 m³/day line, FKP added an identical second line within a month without interrupting operations — over 300,000 m³ treated in total.

After the success of the first BOO line, Saudi Aramco’s JTTF requested a capacity increase; a second 250 m³/day line was added inside the existing plant in a one-month window with no effect on treatment quality. Over 300,000 m³ has been treated in total.

The challenge

Evaporation-pond wastewater varies widely in quality yet must consistently meet marine-discharge limits — and a mid-contract capacity increase had to happen without taking the plant offline.

Site & process constraints
  • Highly variable evaporation-pond feed quality
  • Hard marine-discharge limits
  • Expansion with zero operational downtime
Engineering approach

A treatment train sequenced to the contaminants.

Galaxie Separator → Electro-coagulation → DAF → Lamella Settler → UV AOP → Self-cleaning Filter

A containerised train — Galaxie separator, electro-coagulation, DAF with lamella settling, UV advanced oxidation, and self-cleaning fine filtration — handles feed swings. Electro-coagulation cuts DAF chemical use; UV-AOP polishes for safe marine discharge. FKP supplied the pre-treatment, advanced-treatment and dosing containers, civil and mechanical works, stripping tank, portable lab, and generators.

Electro-coagulation first: reduces coagulant chemical demand on the DAF downstream.
Modular containers: let the second line drop in within a month, no shutdown.
