Wastewater Treatment Facilities SDS 1 — Jizan Refinery

A supply-install-operate facility that strips sulfide from 30,000 m³ of accumulated sour water in Tank D-0101 — from about 8,000 ppm down to under 1 ppm — for compliant discharge to the Jazan WWTP.

Executive summary

Supply, installation, and operation of a facility to remove sulphides from ~30,000 m³ of accumulated sour water in Tank D-0101, cutting sulphide from ~8,000 ppm to under 1 ppm to meet Jazan WWTP discharge limits.

The design was led by IE-Consult; FK & Partner Co. and its affiliate Water Technology Company (W-Tech) supplied and installed the complete treatment train, pipelines, and instrumentation, and ran it through commissioning.

The challenge

The sour water in Tank D-0101 carried sulfide around 8,000 ppm and oily content up to 10,000 ppm — well outside what the Jazan WWTP can accept — and H₂S released during handling is both an odour nuisance and a safety hazard.

Site & process constraints
  • Sulfide ~8,000 ppm → required < 1 ppm
  • Oil content up to 10,000 ppm
  • H₂S odour & safety control
  • Hard Jazan WWTP inflow limit
Engineering approach

A treatment train sequenced to the contaminants.

Cyclone Oil-Water Separator → DAF → Multi-Media Filter → Sulfide Scavenger → Activated Carbon

A cyclone oil-water separator (up to 10,000 ppm oil at ≤ 20 m³/hr) takes the first cut, DAF removes remaining suspended solids, a multi-media filter polishes TSS, a sulfide-scavenger dosing system drives sulfide toward the sub-1-ppm target, and activated-carbon units capture H₂S.

Cyclone separation first: protects DAF and downstream stages from the heavy oil load.
Activated carbon: captures H₂S as a gas-phase safeguard, not just liquid treatment.
